Every morning our maid prepares a fresh island-style breakfast that starts baking at 5:30. A typical breakfast includes papaya bowls and banana bread. The hostess garnished with halved fresh papayas and locally sourced Hawaiian bananas and healthy plain yogurt. Using the same Hawaiian apples and bananas, the hostess bakes homemade banana bread from scratch using her secret recipe. Most mornings, the aroma of baked goods wafts from the kitchen into a common area with a warm fireplace. Breakfast is from 7-9 am. Stop in early for a fresh, delicious homemade breakfast.

How To See The Lava Flow In Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
That means rain comes after the rainforest. Destroy the rainforest and the rain will stop and the land will become a desert. According to Hawaiian culture, if it rains while you're here, you're blessed.

A stay at the Volcano House Hotel in Volcanoes National Park is among the top things to do in Hawaii. Read hotel reviews to see what's great and what's disappointing.
If you've ever stayed in a national park, the Volcano House Hotel will feel familiar. It is not a luxury hotel. The small, dated rooms are clean but have little character and offer minimal comfort. Only a few rooms are wheelchair accessible.
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park: Great Trip Tips (2023)
Both the location and the view are great! Volcano House Hotel is literally on the edge of a volcanic crater. There are many hiking and walking options available, from gentle and wheelchair accessible to strenuous hikes.
Seeing an active volcano was a must on our February trip to Hawaii. Kilauea Volcano is the only active volcano in the United States, so part of our travel plan included researching accommodations near Volcano National Park.
The Volcano House Hotel in the park was a tough choice. However, we reviewed 3 other options for where to stay near Volcanoes National Park.
There are several hotels in Volcano Village, about 3 miles from the park entrance. None of the hotels we saw stood out.
Volcano Watch: Under Kilauea Summit, 80% Of Magma Still In Reservoir
I found vacation rental options through Airbnb and VRBO. Like the hotels at Volcano Village, none of these rentals stood out for being nice, affordable, and close enough to the volcano.
A third option for where to stay near Volcanoes National Park was Hilo on the east (windward) side of the Big Island. Again, nothing fancy, Hilo is about an hour drive from the park entrance.
There aren't many hotels near Volcano National Park, so staying at the Volcano House Hotel was a pretty straightforward choice.
We thought that the best option to book Volcano House Hotel is through the hotel website.
Everything To Know About Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
When I'm not traveling, I build SEO-friendly websites, but I'm disappointed that the Volcano House website isn't secure (it's http, not https). Strictly? Secure websites have been a huge problem since around 2015.
However, I was really surprised that Volcano House didn't have a link to book a room or view room rates.
After clicking every link in the navigation at the top of the website and scrolling through every page, I gave up and called the hotel. They told me:
Ok now I look like an idiot. However, as a professional web designer, I can tell you that not having other links to bookend your entire website would be silly!
My Review: Volcano House Hotel
After a quick phone call with the Volcano House staff, we went back to the booking process on the website.
I was told over the phone that the only way to guarantee a king bed was to book a deluxe crater view room. It only cost me $60 to upgrade from Crater View to Deluxe Crater View, I booked the Deluxe room as it was quite spacious.
Volcano House Hotel requires a 1 night deposit plus tax to secure the room. You can cancel for free up to 7 days before arrival and get your deposit back. If canceled within 7 days of arrival, 1 night room rate plus taxes will be charged.
A deluxe crater view room is $435 per night, including taxes and fees.
